4 Ingredients To Make Rice Krispie Treats

Yes, you read that right, you only need 4 ingredients to make these no-bake treats!

  1. Butter: The butter no only helps keep these soft but also adds a ton of flavor.
  2. Marshmallows: These are extra gooey without falling apart, thanks to the extra marshmallows! You will need 2 24-ounce bags of the regular size marshmallows— it might seem like a lot but it's just the right amount!
  3. Vanilla Extract: This is an easy addition that takes these to the next level. You just need 1 teaspoon and it makes a HUGE difference!
  4. Rice Krispies Cereal: What's rice krispie treats without rice krispies cereal? You can use the name brand or store brand, I've used both (even mixed them) and both work just fine.

Butter & Marshmallow Ratio

A very important factor in making rice krispie treats is the ratio of marshmallow and butter to cereal. Too much cereal and the squares will dry and brunch. Too much marshmallow and butter and the squares will fall apart. This rice krispie treats recipe uses the perfect ratio!

2 Tips for Rice Krispie Treats

Spreading these into the pan can be tricky, often they stick to everything— that is until you've tried one or both of these tips. Remember, you don't want to pack these in, but you want them firm enough that they will stay together.

  • Use the Butter Wrapper: Yes, you are reading this correctly. Don't throw that butter wrapper away! Simply lay it in the pan, buttered side down and press the mixture gently into the pan. This is an easy, no mess way to spread the mixture. Then, toss the wrapper when you're finished!
  • Use a Sprayed/Buttered Flat Spatula: Another option is butter the back of a flat spatula or spray with a little nonstick spray to prevent sticking. Then, gently press the mixture into the pan.

The ratio of rice krispies cereal to marshmallows makes a huge difference in rice krispie treats. Adding a little more butter, marshmallows and a touch of vanilla extract makes all of the difference! By using this recipe, you'll get extra gooey and butter rice krispie treats every time!

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 20 squares
  • Category: Dessert

Ingredients

Units

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 12-ounce bags regular size marshmallows
  • 11 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease the parchment paper using a light mist of nonstick spray— this will prevent the bars from sticking. Set aside
  2. Over medium heat, melt the butter in a large pot. Once melted, stir in the marshmallows. Stir the mixture until the marshmallows are just about completely melted. Remove from the heat, stir in the vanilla extract. Then, fold in the cereal, making sure that all of the cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  3. Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan. Using the butter wrapper or a lightly greased rubber spatula, gently spread the mixture into the pan. Do not pack it down with extreme force, just gently so it can set. Allow to set for 30 minutes at room temperature or up to 1 day— cover if leaving it out for more then an hour.
  4. Lift the rice krispie treats as a whole out of the pan using the edges of the parchment paper. Cut into squares, or your preferred shape. Cover tightly and store leftovers at room temperature for up to 3 days. If stacking, place layers of parchment paper between the bars.

Maybe because I am not using more butter? not sure! lol but I am definitely giving this recipe a try! Thank you for sharing!
